A land sale is in process between CEA Fresh Farms and a private landowner for farmland on the southside of State Road, between Salt Road and County Line Road in Webster NY. This parcel of land is located in a rural and residential neighborhood. CEA Fresh Farms has proposed to build seven (7), seven (7) acre grow factory buildings. These buildings would come with the infrastructure necessary to operate an industrial park (24/7). Additionally, they have proposed nine (9) acres of retention ponds, a 75,000 square foot processing plant, parking lots, water tanks, and roadways. A total of 72 acres of prime farmland will be stripped and covered with impervious surfaces (concrete, asphalt and rubber pond liners).
If this Industrial development ever came to fruition, the southeast portion of the town of Webster, the Village of Webster, surrounding towns of Penfield, Ontario, and Walworth would see man made lights in the sky (light pollution), hear the noise of a massive industrial park and experience the roar of tractor trailer trucks up and down these back country roads.
The town Master Plan was to keep industrial development between Route 104 and 404. This type of development in rural Webster is unwanted by citizens and that was proven by community outreach during the failed Tomato Greenhouse project that was moved to an industrial area on Route 104. This type of development would change these farmlands forever and decrease property values in the towns of Webster, Penfield, Ontario and Walworth. This is not just about Webster….this property is ½ mile from the county line.
Put this project in an industrial area where it belongs!
Our planning board has chosen to appease the company and approve the project instead of acting in the best interests of the community. Hundreds of residents’ objections, numerous zoning, environmental and ethical issues have been ignored. The onus is now on us to act! We are taking legal action, and we need your help to fund the fight.
